Martin Kohler’s “Big Urban Walk” videos provide a productive & reflective form of viewing our cities. I personally just “walked” through the city of Detroit. http://vimeo.com/user5107785/videos
Just noticed a seemingly more than coincidental reference to the first ever photo with a person in it (above: 1838 Paris) watching the movie Hugo. Both the 1838 photo and the Hugo screenshot are both in Paris, have a similar perspective and the location of the people in each shot is eerily reminiscent of each other. Pretty cool.
Some thoughts lately regarding the potential for our cities…
*Ways to create more porous urban filtration- inhabitants can become less claustrophobic when currently “abandoned” areas of the city become useable space?
*Housing can be integrated with its surroundings and neighbors in more creative ways- these attempts can be at social and ecological levels
*Food can create new connections- how food is attained and how it is produced can be sorted out within an urban context. Food then has more meaning, and so does the place it comes from.
